Retrospect 19th congress

Dear EVECC Family,

We hope you are all well and that after a nice summer you are enjoy now the beautiful autumn colours.

As the nights become longer it gives us time to reflect on the 19th EVECC Congress which took place in the beautiful city of Ghent, Belgium. After two years of virtual meetings and congresses it was a gorgeous city to finally meet in person. It was a big party not only because of the great scientific content of lectures and labs, but also because we could finally see and hug friends and sit, walk and dance together drinking the national drink – beer. The phrase that we heard the most throughout the Congress was how great and amazing was to be able to see each other again. This really filled our heart with joy because EVECC Congress it is not only a place to be inspired and learn but also a great international community of people and friends.

This year, we also had our inaugural Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Ultrasound Symposium (VECCUS) orchestrated by the passionate  VECCUS group which kicked off the events in Ghent with a fantastic pre-congress day. One hundred and sixteen delegates attended VECCUS bounding with enthusiasm, with fabulous presentations and interesting discussions on the latest use of point of care ultrasound in which ECC leads the way in the profession.

The EVECC Congress took place from the 2nd till the 4th of June with 3 different streams throughout with an additional stream on Saturday aimed at residents. We had 620 delegates on-site with 121 online, an incredible number who believed once more in the quality of the EVECC Congress. We are very thankful for that!

Thirty four national and international speakers presented their lectures during 3 days of the Congress and we had a number of wet and dry labs running throughout, including RECOVER instructor and certification, basic and advanced POCUS labs and many, many more.

The Congress was also an important occasion for awards and prices. Our heartfelt thanks to BBraun Vet Care and VECCS, for their sponsorship of three veterinary awards.

Best Original study: Manon Rigot.

Best Intern / Resident Original Study: Olivia Walesby.

Best Case Report: Niels Groesser.

AVECCTN-VTS kindly sponsored the Best Nurse / Tech Case Presentation which was won by Claire Ravachol. The European College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care and the EVECC Society jointly funded and awarded the EVECC Congress Research Grant which was awarded to Marta Garcia Arce. Another first this year for the EVECCS was a student grant to support students’ participation to the Congress. The grant, generously sponsored by Royal Canin, was awarded to Victor Eyral.

Congratulations to all of you! And we look forward to seeing you all in the future and thank you for the work that you have already done, and good luck to forthcoming projects. Whilst honours go to a few, we are incredibly grateful for everyone who submitted case reports and studies and applied for any grant. We wish you luck for the future.

The 19th EVECC Congress could not have been possible without the help, support and hard work of many people that we would like to acknowledge here.

Thank you to all members of the Central Organising Committee, the Sponsor Committee, t Scientific Committee and our PCO for their Herculean efforts in organising this Congress for 2022 (as well as 2020). A special mention to our speakers from all over the world  that delivered amazing lectures.

We would not be able to hold the EVECC Congress or make it affordable to our members without our sponsors. To all of you, thank you. The exhibition hall was a busy place for people to meet, chat and discover. It was made even busier thanks to the Exhibition Hall Treasure Hunt, a lot of fun to encourage our delegates to engage with the sponsors and exhibitors which was fun with amazing prices! If you missed out in the Treasure Hunt– make sure that you participate next year with prizes you won’t want to miss out on!

Finally we’d like to invite you to the 20th EVECCS Congress in Porto, Portugal from June 1nd to 3rd  2023, and don't forget the VECCUS pre-congress day on the 31st May.
