Gemma Cooper
Gemma is a registered veterinary nurse with 16 years of experience ranging from primary care to the specialist veterinary settings. She has worked at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals (QMHA), a tertiary referral hospital at the Royal Veterinary College for 10 years. Having completed her Certificate of Advanced Veterinary Nursing in Emergency and Critical Care, Gemma lead the ECC nursing team between 2021-2023. Gemma was the IPC champion in the ECC department for 6 years. Recognising the importance and exciting opportunities of this relatively new field in veterinary medicine, Gemma took up the role of QMHA IPC Manager and has been leading the IPC team for the past three years. Gemma has been responsible for establishing, revising and disseminating IPC standards across the QMHA and providing training and education to undergraduate VN students, RVN and patient care assistants. She is passionate about IPC and integrating practical IPC measures into the multidisciplinary veterinary hospital environment to ensure the best level of patient and staff safety.
