Sumari Dancer

Sumari Dancer qualified as a veterinarian at the end of 2014 at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. After completing a rotating small animal internship at Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital in 2015, she transitioned into a clinical teacher role in the Department of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging in 2016. During this time, she started an honours degree (equivalent to a UK certificate) in veterinary medicine, with subjects focused on veterinary diagnostic imaging and veterinary diagnostic imaging anatomy. She enrolled in an MMedVet degree in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging in 2017 and became a South African recognised specialist in veterinary diagnostic imaging in 2020.

Sumari started her European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging residency simultaneously with her MMedVet degree in South Africa in 2018, where she completed two years of her training. In 2021, Sumari emigrated to the UK and finished her ECVDI residency training at the beginning of 2022. She became boarded in 2023 and is currently recognised as a diagnostic imaging specialist with the EBVS and RCVS.

Sumari was introduced to student teaching very early in her veterinary career, taking on student train

ing during her rotating internship, and she started lecturing in 2016. She worked as a senior lecturer at both the University of Pretoria and the University of Edinburgh and has always loved sharing knowledge and collaborating with other specialties. She joined Anderson Moores Veterinary Specialists in March 2025, where she is currently the Clinical Lead for Diagnostic Imaging.

Sumari enjoys the diversity that diagnostic imaging provides and enjoys all modalities, but she has a special interest in musculoskeletal imaging, especially musculoskeletal ultrasonography. Her exposure to veterinary diagnostic imaging anatomy during her postgraduate courses has also sparked her love for clinical imaging anatomy.
